David McGowan TRUST ME I'M THE GOVERNMENT

Mike Rann and minions want South Australians to choose their next Government on the basis of their economic and infrastructure record. So do we.
A Government that wants to abandon a $1billion working hospital in favour of a lesser hospital for $1.7billion – that makes good economic sense.
A Government that wants to get someone else to pay for the project and then we the people will get this new hospital on hire purchase at a mere 1.19 billion interest every year for 35 years that presumes low interest rate and replacement of capital, and doesn’t include the cost of operating the hospital - that makes good economic sense .
The RAH is part of the state’s infrastructure, so the action of Mike Rann’s government was to abandon the on site redevelopment in 2007. Perhaps that plan was no good In 2001 the Minister Health Leach Stevens told the RAH Board how fortunate we were that the Government under the Generational Health Review would make available the money for the redevelopment of the hospital to world class standard. 6 years later John Hill pulled the plug saying that a new hospital would deliver the world class standards. You wonder whether the Government was spinning in 2001, or 2007. Spinning out of control seems to be a better description.
Why did the Government abandon this world class redevelopment on site? One explanation suggested to me is that the Government had run out of money, and rather than admit their financial failure came up with the Marj to be built by Public Private Partnership so the Government doesn’t have to find the money and ongoing health costs can be fobbed off on the Commonwealth,(and this before the Rudd Rann partnership on health) and anyway a gullible public will love a new hospital named after a much loved governor. It has to be something like that because there is no medical, medical care reason, no overseas imperative
Well Messrs Rann Foley and Hill. We are not the gullible public. We expect you to use yourTriple A credit rating to provide infrastructure in a responsible manner
Yes , we agree with you Mr Rann , people should choose on the basis of economic record and infrastructure. And when we examine your proposals for the RAH we see exposed what a poor record it is.
On March 20th begin the restoration of sense to South Australia - Vote for the first step Save the RAH.
